Cole purposefully writes lyrics that are meant to be perceived as flawed, such as his repetition of the word “again” at the end of two lines in the first verse as he attempts to apologize for rambling, a mistake that would be characteristic of the flustering that occurs when an individual believes they are making a bad impression of themselves and apologize for it. Cole’s lyrics for “Neighbors” center around a theme of authenticity to ensure that the full story is being told, and not only the emotions behind the experiences. However, the reverse keys sample enters one last time, and the percussion beat exits which allows for a mellow outro that eventually ends on the chirping birds sample, a representation of the suburbia that Cole discusses within the song. In the transition, the electronic keyboard reenters with the percussion beat, and as the bridge begins, the instrumentation of the second verse’s B section is revisited. ![]() The chorus then repeats, and is slightly extended to create a smooth transition into the bridge that is effectively an outro. In order to add further interest and tension to build up to the second chorus, Cole inserts a B section of the second verse that utilizes the melodic vocal track of the chorus and the song’s bassline. The second verse is similar to the first in that it also gradually introduces the reverse keys, but the bass is consistent throughout, and the electronic keyboard is no longer present. In continuation, the instrumentation of the second verse consists of all introduced non vocal elements of the song so far, excluding the electronic keyboard from the verse, in order to give the chorus a full feeling that clearly establishes it as the song’s focal point. Authenticity becomes a clear primary theme during the first chorus, with anxiously connoted adlibs appearing that are effective in helping to emphasize the disillusionment of the song, even when turned down in the mix, and in addition, Cole includes a melodic vocal track that resembles pleading with its repetitive nature. As the chorus enters, clear distinctions from the version within the intro are heard: the vocals are more desperate sounding, created by the layering of a higher pitched vocal track over a lower pitched vocal track. All changes are gradual, to ensure that the vocals are always supported and not distracted away from during the verse. After the listener experiences a period to adapt to the pace of Cole’s lyrics and rhythm, the reverse keys sample reenters, with the bassline following a few measures later. Cole’s thorough lyrical narrative, the verse’s instrumentation is initially simplified to only a continuation of the intro’s percussion beat and an electronic keyboard. In order to properly display the full extent of J. ![]() A section of the chorus vocals then enters, but in a much calmer tone than what is heard in later choruses, which allows the intro to function as a hint for the themes of nostalgia and disillusionment that are amplified throughout the song. The song’s intro consists of a percussion beat that includes eighth note hi-hat hits with a simple kick and snare, what sounds like a reversed keys sample, a stylistic yet elementary bassline, and a faint sample of birds chirping. The song was recorded by Juro “Mez” Davis at The Sheltuh, Dreamville, NC, and mixed also by Davis at The Sheltuh in collaboration with Beatriz Artola and Gosha Usov of Electric Lady Studios in New York. ![]() Additional drums were created by producer Elite and Rocnation’s Deputy. Jermaine Cole himself is responsible for the songwriting, production, vocal performance, and live bass of the song. ![]()
“Don’t let that man near our children.” That’s the kind of detail that humanises his Nazi enforcer so horrifyingly well. “If I don’t come back alive,” he tells his wife. Smith is cautious, not just because he’s loyal, but because he’s unsure about where this path is leading. He’s summoned by Heydrich to go hunting, where he’s informed that the Fuhrer is weak and Heydrich plans to depose him. But Sewell, undoubtedly the most menacing man in a cardigan since Tom Hardy in Lawless, increasingly emerges as uncertain as the rest of them. The girl, of course, is Juliana Craine (Alexa Davalos), who’s sucked into the resistance and whose relationship with Joe continues to blossom, much to the displeasure of her husband, Frank (Rupert Evans). “I know you’ve been lying to me,” Smith informs his double-agent, Joe Blake (Luke Kleintank). He has the intimidating air of a man who knows everything. Compared to his recent role in ITV’s Victoria, the actor’s as unrecognisable and versatile as he is relentless charming. ![]() Rufus Sewell has been key to that, his Obergruppenführer John Smith becoming more complex and nuanced with every minute he spends on screen. The mystery surrounding the film reels has only grown as the season has continued, a puzzle that’s as ambiguous as the Nazis we see on screen. “Take this,” Juliana was told way back at the start of the show, as she was handed a film reel by someone in the resistance. But the very act of world-building is precisely what the people within this world are doing Imperial Japan and the Reich are both crafting their empires amid an unseen Cold War, determined to stop the people on the ground asking that same question. It dares to ask the question “What if?” – and then it answers it too. Ever since its opening episode, with its jaw-dropping shot of Time Square, world-building has been the biggest strength of the series, creating something creepily believable and wonderfully immersive. ![]() From there, it’s possible to really admire just how gigantic this world is. ![]() Yes, that’s where the end of Season 1 of Amazon’s gripping, fascinating, disturbing alt-history thriller takes us – all the way to the top of the Reich, in more ways than one. The fact that he’s saying it to Adolf Hitler only adds to the weight of it. “A wise man once said to me, fate is fluid, destiny is in the hands of man,” says Rudolph Wegener as The Man in the High Castle comes to a close. With Season 2 of The Man in the High Castle on the way, we look back at the final episodes of Season 1. ![]() Beautiful, strong, and opinionated, Pednekar is all for breaking stereotypes through her on-screen characters, and the actor's off-screen journey has been just as interesting. Six years and 12 films later, the actor has multiple awards to her name and more than a few impactful performances on her list-from her role in Zoya Akhtar’s segment of Lust Stories to Tushar Hiranandani’s Saand Ki Aankh. Her performance in her unconventional debut gained her accolades across the board, and sealed her spot among the film industry's rising stars. It is not really a triangular love story as it is a film about sibling rivalry, which may not be portrayed in the best way, but is still an interesting one to watch, particularly for those who enjoy watching Hindi films.2015's critically-acclaimed film Dum Laga Ke Haisha threw Bhumi Pednekar-previously an assistant director-into the spotlight. In conclusion, Aaina is worth watching even though it's very far from being flawless and is quite faulty at times. Singh is suitably confident, attractive and assertive in this role. That said, I'd disagree with anyone who'd call her role villainous, because these are negative shades which probably everyone has, and she is also ambitious and total. Roma is egoistic, domineering, self-indulgent, manipulative, competitive, and she cannot even think of admitting failure. She just has this ability to command the audience's attention in every turn, and that's why this actually works well with the kind of character she plays. I have seen several movies with Singh in it, and there hasn't been even one in which I did not like her. But without a doubt, this film belongs to Amrita Singh, who is wonderful and convincing in a negative role. Her fragility looks very natural and so does her character's gradual transformation. I actually like her more either in comedy or in roles of smart and sophisticated women, but this one definitely works. 1993 was Juhi Chawla's year with such films as Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke in which she delivered an excellent comic performance, and Darr, for which many still remember her as that highly-desired "K-k-k-kiran". Jackie Shroff is good in a role which actually is not much of a challenge. The film's songs, composed by Dilip and Samir Sen, are quite nice, my favourite being "Meri Sanson Mein Tum". The film has some unexpected twists, some of which are ridiculous (like the guy marrying the younger sister when the elder disappears), while the others are pleasant (like the last scenes). Not always does it work, being often hard to believe and hopelessly predictable, but I still found it to be almost throughly enjoyable. ![]() This film is actually trying to convey something. I would say Aaina thankfully does not fit into either category it's quite different and is rather light in mood despite the many attempts at intense storytelling and over-romanticism. The style is very 1990s Hindi cinema, but I mean it mostly in a good way because there was something very naive about Hindi films at that time, although most of them (I'm referring to the commercial films) were either crude action films or over-the-top melodramas. It of course has more than one plot hole, but then that's something I expected. ![]() The film's story is very interesting, and the film itself is also handled pretty well for the most part. Deepak Sareen's Aaina is an effective film about sibling rivalry even if doesn't always ring true. ![]() Continued abuse of our services will cause your IP address to be blocked indefinitely. Conditions can vary even over a few minutes, so there is no way to predict what kind of road conditions you may encounter. Drivers are responsible to adjust to conditions as they find them. Roads in the Park are usually more snowy than the oft-used highway. State Highway 4 is a good, paved, all-weather road and is maintained by plows during the winter. More of the body's water is lost in cold weather than you might think, so keep plenty of liquids around. Dressing in several light layers rather than one thick one is helpful to regulate body temperature when going frequently from active to less active energy levels. A hat is probably the best deterent to heat loss (a wise old saying goes, "If your feet are cold, put on a hat"). Heads, hands, and feet are where most body heat is lost, so keeping these areas warm takes first priority after the body core is properly dressed. You already knew that, of course, but people who aren't used to snow sometimes forget what prolonged exposure to cold can do. The variations are endless, and conditions can change by the hour. Early in the mornings after a sunny previous day, an ice layer can sometimes form atop the snow that will disappear by midday. Ice is certainly slippery, and makes for difficult skiing, often resulting in unpleasant slips and hard landings. "Old" snow is generally coarser in grain, and is easier to turn to ice with compression. This elevation sometimes experiences long spells between snowstorms, so the snow can get "old". As "dry" snow ages, it condenses and forms "wetter" snow and the individual crystals become bigger. "Wet" snow is usually nearer to the temperature where it turns to water, and has less air in the structure. "New" snow is often "dry", that is has a lot of air in the crystals. For Cross-country skiing, however, the best snow is the driest and most recent, and squeaks when you push into it. For snowplay, just about any type of snow will do, though fresh, dry "powder" is difficult to compress to make snowballs or snowpeople. Snowflakes come in many different types, depending on temperature and water content, for example. During the "cold" storms we will get snow, but during the "warm" storms we could get rain or a slushy combination of sleet, hail, snow and rain. Snowfall at this elevation (approximately 5,000 feet) of the Sierra can vary widely. Please use common sense and keep speeds slow for safety's sake. Much of our knowledge of terrestrial locomotion is in the regime of rigid materials where the terrain is not affected by passage of the animal ( Koditschek and Full, 1999 Sponberg and Full, 2008 Kelly et al., 1997 Farley et al., 1993), an understanding which led to the development of robots which are effective on hard ground ( Saranli et al., 2001 Liljebäck et al., 2012 Blickhan et al., 2007). Successful locomotion depends on the execution of body-shape-changes which generate appropriate reaction forces from the terrain, a relationship that can be further complicated if the body motion permanently changes the state of the substrate. Movement is crucial to the survival of most organisms and a necessary ability in robots used in fields like medicine ( Taylor, 2006), search and rescue ( Murphy et al., 2008), and extraterrestrial exploration ( Lindemann and Voorhees, 2005 Shrivastava et al., 2020). ![]() ![]() This study reveals how memory effects stymied the locomotion of a diversity of snakes in our previous studies (Marvi et al., 2014) and indicates avenues to improve all-terrain robots. Robophysical experiments recapitulate aspects of these failure-prone snakes and elucidate how re-encountering previously deformed material hinders performance. RFT explains the morphology and waveform-dependent performance of a diversity of non-sand-specialist snakes but overestimates the capability of those snakes which suffer high lateral slipping of the body. New surface resistive force theory (RFT) calculation reveals how wave shape in these snakes minimizes material memory effects and optimizes escape performance given physiological power limitations. We study the desert-specialist shovel-nosed snake traversing a model sand and find body inertia is negligible despite rapid transit and speed dependent granular reaction forces. While terrestrial locomotors often contend with permanently deformable substrates like sand, soil, and mud, principles of motion on such materials are lacking. |
